About the Study PDF Print E-mail

Wyong Shire Council is currently preparing a flood study for the Wallarah Creek (including Spring Creek) catchment.  As shown in the image on the right, the catchment includes Blue Haven and Wallarah as well as part sections of Doyalson, San Remo, Charmhaven, Lake Haven and Woongarrah. A number of important transportation links also extend through the catchment including the Pacific Highway, Main Northern Railway, Doyalson Link Road and Pacific Motorway.

The urban sections of the catchment are drained by a network of open channels, stormwater pipes and detention basins which are designed to safely carry stormwater runoff from the catchment into Budgewoi Lake. However, during very heavy rainfall there is potential for the capacity of the existing stormwater system to be exceeded. In such cases, the excess water will spill out of waterways and stormwater pipes and has the potential to inundate roadways as well as residential and commercial properties. There is also potential for water to overtop the banks of the numerous creeks and waterways in the catchment and inundate the adjoining floodplain
